Hello my friends today I will
tell you about Gregor Mendel (father of genetics) was born on 20 July 1822 in a town called
Heinzendorf (Czech Republic) at the time was an Austrian province, and was
baptized with the name of Johann Mendel, however, took the name of his Father
Gregorio when entering as an Augustinian friar, 9 of October of 1843, in the
convent of Augustins of Brno and seat of
illustrated clergymen. On August 6, 1847, he was ordained a priest. In 1851 he entered the University of
Vienna where he studied history, botany, physics, chemistry and mathematics
Mendel began his
experiments by choosing two pea plants that differed in one character, crossed
a variety that produced yellow seeds with another that produced green seeds;
These plants form the so-called parental generation (P).
As a result of
this crossing were produced plants that produced nothing more than yellow
seeds, repeated the crosses with other pea plants that differed in other
characters and the result was the same, a character of the two occurred in the
filial generation. To the character that appeared it called dominant character
and to which not, recessive character. In this case, the yellow color is one of
the dominant characters, while the green color is one of the recessive
characters.
The plants
obtained from the parent generation are referred to collectively as the first
filial generation (F1).
Mendel allowed
the first-generation plants to self-fertilize and obtained the so-called
second-generation subsidiary (F2), composed of plants producing yellow seeds
and plants that produced green seeds in a 3: 1 ratio (three yellow seeds and
one Of green seeds). He repeated the experiment with other differentiated
characters and obtained similar results in a 3: 1 ratio.
These
experiments were of great help to biology and to humanity since it allowed to
understand how the behave the genes and how these can get to express itself
throughout the generations.
